AJR Advocates for Equality and Justice in Albany

Rabbi Rena H. Kieval (AJR ’06) represented AJR on May 1, 2007, Equality and Justice Day, joining about 30 clergy leaders and over 1,000 volunteers to lobby our legislators in Albany to act on LGBT issues. The day was organized by Empire State Pride in the Pulpit. AJR is a member of this coalition of religious leaders and institutions who support, as a matter of religious principle, equality and justice for all, regardless of sexual orientation.

Pride in the Pulpit reports: It was an amazing event for many reasons, but made even more special because of Eliot Spitzer’s marriage bill introduction last Friday and the fact that there has not been this large of a community presence in Albany since the 1971 March on Albany to demand the most basic of rights after the Stonewall riots.

Rena writes: I was grateful for the opportunity. My presence was noted, AJR’s name was on all the faith group lists and it was a good learning experience for me.

AJR is proud to have taken part in this important initiative. We are deeply grateful to Rabbi Rena Kieval for stepping forward and representing AJR so ably.
