Cantor Howard Nacht

Cantor Howard Nacht grew up in New Jersey where his love for Judaism and Jewish music took root. It was there that he first experienced Jewish pluralism without the title by attending Hebrew school at a liberal Conservative congregation while praying next to his father and grandfather at the Brisker Shul. This is the background that led him to an appreciation of traditional Chazzanut and of modern Jewish music. This also is what led him to feel comfortable in a variety of Jewish environments.

Howard holds B.A. and LL.B. degrees from Rutgers University. Prior to studying for the cantorate, he worked in administrative and management capacities, both in local government and private business. For many years his parallel life has involved both synagogue and Brotherhood activities. He has sung in choirs, served on Ritual committees and temple boards, led summer and Shiva services, taught Hebrew to adults, led model seders, and more.

Since July of 1998, Howard has served as Cantor of Temple Beth Am of Yorktown Heights, New York.
