Mission and Philosophy: The Shalom Hartman Institute is a leading center of Jewish thought and education, serving Israel and North America. Our mission is to strengthen Jewish peoplehood, identity and pluralism, to enhance the Jewish and Democratic character of Israel, and to ensure that Judaism is a compelling force for good in the 21st century. Hartman’s Teen Initiatives recruit, support, and mentor young Jewish learners (aged 15-18) in order to develop and inspire ongoing, thoughtful Jewish engagement and courageous Jewish leaders. Hartman’s Teen Initiatives also help high school students cultivate Jewish identities that take seriously their relationships with Jewish Peoplehood, Israel, and broader humanity while developing the tools to build an informed, meaningful, and bright Jewish future.
