The Jewish Community Project (JCP) of Lower Manhattan was founded in 2002 as a grassroots effort to grow Jewish life in downtown NYC. Based in Tribeca, JCP is an open and dynamic non- denominational Jewish community that enables individuals and families to become a creative force in the life of the organization through educational, cultural, social, and spiritual experiences. The organization now serves approximately 300 downtown families and individuals, and also operates a prominent Early Childhood Center (ECC) and a thriving Hebrew school (the Hebrew School Project, or HSP). JCP is looking to hire talented and engaging B’nai Mitzvah Educators for the Hebrew School Project (HSP) for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a part-time position for Monday or Wednesday afternoons/evenings during the hours of 4:00-7:00pm. The b’nai mitzvah program at JCP is an independent, experiential, Jewish after-school program that prepares children in 6th-7th grade to have b’nai mitzvah ceremonies. The program is part of the Hebrew School Project (HSP) at the Jewish Community Project (JCP), a diverse, creative, inclusive, and open non-denominational Jewish community and communal space in Lower Manhattan. JCP is looking to hire talented and engaging b’nai mitzvah educators for the 2024-2025 school year to work one-on-one with b’nai mitzvah learners in a unique preparatory environment on Monday or Wednesday afternoons/evenings in-person. Educators will work individually with learners in a Hebrew/Torah skill-based curriculum, while boosting learners’ self-confidence and positive associations with Jewish tradition and Jewish adult role models. Applicants must: Be able to teach Hebrew, Torah trope, and prayer skills, Be engaging, enthusiastic, and passionate about Jewish education, Have experience working in diverse educational settings, Be interested in learning and growing as a teacher and as a Jewish professional, Be a team player, open to creative and collaborative work, Feel comfortable in a flexible professional environment, Have a progressive approach to Judaism and denominationalism & Be available to work without visa support. Compensation is $50 per 45-minute tutoring session.
