Bet Am Shalom Synagogue is a vibrant, egalitarian, Reconstructionist Jewish congregation of families, individuals, and children (400 households) who share a deep respect for tradition and believe in a thoughtful, progressive approach to Judaism. The creative spirit of our members fuels our community as together we pray, study Torah, share lifecycle events, support each other, educate our children, and commit to repairing the world (tikkun olam). Our warm, highly participatory community is sustained by members’ financial commitments, wide volunteer engagement and our open, democratic decision-making process. Bet Am Shalom Synagogue is looking for a Cantor/Cantorial Soloist for High Holy Days. Our prayer is traditional, participatory, musical, and made powerful by our collective voices joined together. Our High Holy Days services are held in a large tent on our property and attended by 1200 people. The Cantor/Cantorial Soloist will be responsible for collaborating closely with the Rabbi to develop and conduct innovative and meaningful services for the High Holy Days, a process that entails participating in meetings and rehearsals. Schedule: Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rosh Hashanah First Day (morning service both days), Rosh Hashanah Second Day, Kol Nidre & Yom Kippur (morning service and Neilah). Characteristics of the Ideal Candidate: An engaging service leader with a davening style that encourages congregational participation rather than individual performance, Skilled professional whose voice inspires and uplifts our congregation in prayer & Has knowledge and love of both traditional and contemporary Jewish music, prayer, and nusach ha’tefilah. Qualifications: Minimum of three years prior experience leading High Holy Days services, Bachelor’s degree, cantorial ordination, completing cantorial program or equivalent preferred but not required, Liturgical knowledge and fluency, (Kol HaNeshamah series, desired), Hebrew literacy & Ability to lead congregational singing.
