Chaplain conducts religious services and provides spiritual guidance for the patients or inmates of his/her faith admitted to a State institution:  establishes periods for worship, conducts religious services and administers rites and sacraments; counsels individuals on personal and spiritual problems; does pastoral calling on those of his/her own faith in order to develop good relationships with patients or inmates with particular attention to those newly admitted to the institution, patients passing through an emotional crisis, the critically ill, the dying and those about to be released; conducts a religious education program through planning and organizing instructional classes, group discussions, forums, broadcasts, and group music programs; works closely with medical officers, psychologists, social workers, nurses, parole and placement officers in order to further the rehabilitation of patients or inmates; speaks before community groups on the program of the institution to which he/she is assigned; consults with the institution head and other chaplains on the coordination of the religious program and its relationship with the overall functions of the institution; aids in selecting religious books and equipment for purchase; maintains records of religious activities. This title is non-competitive.  No examination is necessary.  However, you must still meet the Minimum Qualifications of the position. Candidates must have ecclesiastical endorsement from the official endorsing agency of the Chaplain’s faith or denomination. This title exists within Various New York State Agencies and has approximately 300 positions statewide. This position may also serve at Taconic Correctional Facility (across the street). These are both women’s facilities. Chaplain 22 salary: $79,928-$101,197. All salary grades for trainees titles are non-statutory (NS) equated to the salary grade identified. These grade equations apply to the starting salaries in their respective salary schedule for the traineeship levels. This title may exist in more than one negotiating unit. This salary schedule represents the most typical salary for this title. An individual’s final salary is determined by the Office of the State Comptroller. This salary schedule does not reflect any Special Salary Treatments. You must apply directly to the agency or agencies that have this title.
