The Reform Temple of Putnam Valley (RTPV) is a small, welcoming, compassionate, and progressive congregation. Our mission is to meet the spiritual, religious, educational and social needs of our temple community of 30 member families, honor the individual’s role in developing her/his Jewish identity, and to embrace the principles of the Jewish people and the State of Israel. We are looking for a versatile, inspirational leader to guide our congregation of multiple generations of friendly and caring members who are seeking to welcome a creative, dynamic and enthusiastic spiritual leader to our community. Adaptability is essential as you will be serving the various needs of RTPV members, and acting as a liaison to the larger community. This is an opportunity to foster a congregation that will develop along with you. Responsibilities: Coordinate and lead Friday night Shabbat and High Holiday Services, Offer spiritual guidance, counseling and emotional support to members, Provide support for those in need, funerals, Shiva and bereavement support for community members, Officiate at Simchot (weddings, baby namings, B’nai mitzvot), and interfaith and same-sex ceremonies, Assist in curriculum and possibly teach weekly religious school lessons (ages 5 and up); prepare students for B’nai mitzvot, if needed, Mentor and counsel conversion candidates, Offer occasional adult educational programs, Assist RTPV membership growth by creating an inviting atmosphere for new families, including interfaith and non-practicing community members, Communicate and coordinate with the RTPV Board and related committees, Represent RTPV in the community at large, Cultivate relationships with other local religious organizations to offer holiday programs & Prepare Rabbi’s Report for monthly Board of Trustee meeting. Qualifications: Warm, caring, approachable, creative, passionate and progressive individual who embraces diversity in the community, Knowledge of Jewish rituals and laws, and the diverse approaches offered by Reform Judaism, Ability to lead services and read and interpret the Torah, Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Experience in working with and motivating volunteers, Understand Jewish community needs in Putnam Valley and surrounding communities, Ability to connect with children and parents, Support for Israel and the Jewish people & Computer proficiency (Social media skills a plus).
