Shalom! Hebrew Congregation of Somers, a warm, inspired, and collaborative Jewish community in Northern Westchester, is searching for Sunday morning Hebrew School teachers (Jewish Studies and Hebrew), substitute Hebrew School teachers, and Tuesday afternoon Hebrew teachers. Our Jewish Studies program is values based exploration. Tefillah is about creating a relationship between the student and the liturgy. We teach Hebrew through decoding Tefillah from the Friday night and Saturday morning Shabbat services, and through surrounding our students with Hebrew words and ideas. Our community aims to creatively and lovingly connect with each student. We seek to support our students’ diverse learning and social ways of being. Please join us in guiding our wonderful students as they develop their relationship with Jewish life, community, learning, and practice. Responsibilities: HCS Educators: 1) send their lesson plans to the Education Director and receive support, 2) are creative, flexible, collaborative, friendly, and full-hearted, 3) are respectful of where our students are in terms of their beliefs (or non-beliefs) in G-d, 4) are respectful of our students’ identity and identity development: gender, LGBTQIA+ community affiliation, racial identity etc., 5) are in their classrooms at least 15 minutes before start time to ensure that their materials are set up and they are ready and receptive to teach, 6) follow positive discipline approaches, and call in support (Ed Director, Rabbi) when support is needed & 7) keep Ed Director in the loop re: any concerns, challenges in class. Sunday morning (in person): 10am-12pm Tuesday afternoon (remote and in person) 4-6pm. Competitive salary: $50/hr. One hour prep time pay per month.
