Congregation Beth Emeth is currently seeking a warm and engaging Cantor or Cantorial Soloist to reinvigorate our Kabbalat Shabbat services and support our B’nai Mitzvah and Religious School music programs. Position also includes leading High Holiday services in conjunction with our corps of dedicated lay leaders. Ideal candidate will be able to blend traditional melodies/nusach with innovation to increase our sense of kavanah and ruach. Congregation Beth Emeth is an egalitarian, Conservative synagogue in Herndon, Virginia. On Friday nights only, we use acoustic instruments to enhance both family-focused and traditional services. With approximately 300 Jewish families, we provide a close-knit community that supports our congregants and strives to meet our members’ spiritual, educational, and social needs. Cantor / Cantorial Soloist Responsibilities: Lead 3 Kabbalat Shabbat services each month, Create framework for weekly innovative Kabbalat Shabbat programming to engage and encourage congregational participation, Tutor B’nai Mitzvah students and support students on day of simcha & Lead music programming for Religious School students on Sunday mornings. Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of traditional and contemporary Jewish music and tefilot, Demonstrated knowledge of Torah and Haftarah trope and Shabbat morning liturgy with the ability to teach students & Demonstrated ability to daven Shabbat and High Holiday liturgy. This is a part-time, salaried position ($35,000.00 & $40,000.00 annual). Compensation is commensurate with experience, education, and agreed-upon specifics of responsibilities.
