Congregation Agudas Achim is an established egalitarian Conservative congregation in Columbus, OH, one of the fastest-growing cities in the US. Congregation Agudas Achim seeks a Director of Lifelong Learning (DLL). In partnership with our rabbi, the DLL is responsible for envisioning, creating, and implementing our core value of Talmud Torah K’neged Kulam, learning together is tantamount to all. In this role, the DLL oversees all aspects of our synagogue’s educational programming. Together with the rabbi, they will be primarily responsible for Makom, our new Jewish learning hub. They will collaborate closely with senior staff and lay leaders to oversee educational programming for all ages at our synagogue. Who You Are: Operational leader: Successful demonstration in operating and leading a small or mid-sized learning institution and experience in program strategy and research, policy, classroom design and management, and constituent management, Relational teacher: Model dynamic, human-centric design and excellent teaching that centers on the idea that we must get to know people in order to find what is meaningful for them in order to inspire our congregants and families, Skilled Jewish educator: Bring outstanding Torah understanding and the ability to translate it into learning experiences for learners ranging 0 to 120, Adaptive professional: Forward thinking and driven, able to take initiative and anticipate needs and balance competing priorities & Effective communicator: Demonstrate strong verbal and written communications. Show ability to adapt influencing style for audience and constituency. Qualified: A Master’s degree in Jewish Education or a related field, a Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years in Jewish educational programing leadership, and/or rabbinic ordination (or candidates on that path) for a role that includes rabbinic responsibilities. Responsibilities include: Facilitating and administering Makom, our newly established educational programming for school-aged children, as well as coordinating and building our educational programming for all ages, Collaborating closely with the rabbi in implementing the overall direction and vision for the congregation’s educational offerings, Establishing warm and positive relationships with families, children, faculty, and other members of our congregational community, Enlisting and engaging volunteers to contribute to lifelong learning and family programming & Fostering and maintaining collaborative relationships with the community at large to facilitate continued growth in Makom enrollment and synagogue engagement, Makom: Oversee and articulate the vision, goals, and structure of Makom together with the Clergy, Committees, Board, and other lay leaders, Facilitate curriculum that helps participants recognize and distinguish the themes, emotions, stories, and laws in Judaism and locate themselves within our tradition and how it relates to their own lives and journeys. Evaluate the curriculum on an ongoing basis in consultation with the rabbi, Communicate and respond to students, parents, teachers and other congregants in nurturing an environment that enhances enthusiasm for a lifetime of Jewish learning, Recruit, train, and lead the faculty who teach our students, Engage with the congregation and greater community to attract current and new families & Maintain appropriate budgeting, asset management, record keeping, and resource development in consultation with the executive director, Adult Education: Work collaboratively with lay leaders and synagogue leadership team to help develop and deliver an inspiring and cohesive adult education program and curriculum, Teach directly and create opportunities for the rabbi, guests, and congregants to teach classes that will appeal to the members of Agudas Achim and the broader community & Ensure robust schedule of events such as topical presentations and scholars-in-residence & Youth Learning and Engagement: Oversee, track progress and provide academic support for our B’nai Mitzvah students, including finding tutors, mentors, or B’nai Mitzvah project opportunities, Collaborate with the rabbi and director of congregation life to plan and implement family social events, such as family Shabbat dinners, movie nights, and congregational retreats, Develop relationships with and engage our middle and high school students and facilitate dynamic educational and social programming for them & If filled by a rabbi, DLL could support pastoral and rabbinic responsibilities including: support with life cycle events, providing pastoral care to community members, representing congregation at community events, and leadership and participation in minyan and shabbat services. Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time position with occasional night and weekend responsibilities.
