Congregation Nevei Kodesh - Boulder, CO
Inclusive/Diverse, Renewal
Salary Range:
Beyond its extraordinary setting, Boulder is home to one of the country’s most vibrant and collaborative Jewish communities. Nevei Kodesh is part of a rich ecosystem of congregations, schools, nonprofits, and community organizations serving Boulder County and the greater Denver metropolitan area. Through Haver: Boulder Council of Rabbis & Cantors, our Rabbi joins a collegial community committed to shared learning, mutual support, and collaboration across denominational lines. At the same time, Nevei Kodesh maintains its own distinctive identity as a Jewish Renewal congregation. We value both our unique spiritual path and our active participation in the broader Jewish community, believing that our tradition is enriched through collaboration, friendship, and shared purpose. For those seeking both an exceptional quality of life and the opportunity to serve a thoughtful, spiritually engaged Jewish community, Boulder is a remarkable place to call home. If this vision of Jewish life resonates with you, we would be delighted to hear from you. Our congregation is pleased to announce a search for a full-time Rabbi and Spiritual Leader to begin serving in July 2027. Nevei Kodesh is intentionally participatory. Members are encouraged to contribute, lead, teach, sing, volunteer, learn, and help shape the life of the congregation. This shared ownership creates a culture in which people are known, valued, and supported through every stage of life. Our community includes people from many Jewish backgrounds, interfaith families, Jews by choice, LGBTQIA+ individuals couples and families, lifelong Renewal practitioners, and those who are just beginning to explore Jewish life. We do not expect everyone to arrive with the same beliefs or experiences. What we do hope is that people arrive with openness, curiosity, and a willingness to journey together. Our religious school plays an important role in the communal journey. A Jewish education goes beyond preparing children for B’nai Mitzvah. It helps young people and their families build lasting relationships with Jewish traditions, one another, and our community. The school is one of our most important investments in the future. We are committed to strengthening it as a vibrant gateway into congregational life. Across generations, we strive to create a community where every person has the opportunity both to belong and to contribute.
Your Rabbinate at Nevei Kodesh: The Rabbi & Spiritual Leader serves as the spiritual heart of Congregation Nevei Kodesh and as a partner in shaping its future. Working together with staff, lay leaders, volunteers, and the Board of Directors, the Rabbi guides the congregation’s spiritual, educational, pastoral, and communal life. The role calls for someone who leads through relationship, teaching, spiritual presence, curiosity, and collaboration—someone who is as comfortable sitting with an individual in need as they are inspiring a room full of people through worship, learning, music, meditation, or vision. Our Rabbi will be a spiritual guide and a community builder: nurturing the inner life of the congregation while helping it continue to grow in vitality, engagement, and impact. We expect our next Rabbi to be an active participant in the broader Boulder Jewish community, building collegial relationships through Haver: Boulder Council of Rabbis & Cantors, collaborating across organizations and movements, and helping Nevei Kodesh remain a respected and engaged voice within the larger Jewish ecosystem.
Spiritual Leadership & Jewish Learning: At Nevei Kodesh, worship, learning, and spiritual practice are deeply interconnected. We seek a Rabbi who delights in helping people engage Judaism with their whole selves and who creates experiences that inspire reflection, deepen spiritual practice, and remain with people long after they leave the sanctuary. We seek to create multiple pathways for encountering the Sacred. We recognize that members of our community understand and experience HaShem in different ways, and we intentionally create space for this diversity of theological expression. Practices such as engaging the Four Worlds and the Ten Sephirot, varying the Divine Names used in worship, and incorporating masculine, feminine, and non-gendered language all help us cultivate a rich and inclusive spiritual experience. Our goal is to deepen connection with the Sacred while honoring the wide range of theological perspectives within the Nevei Kodesh community. Some of the most meaningful Jewish learning begins when a service ends: in conversations over Kiddush, around dinner tables, on hikes in the Flatirons, or in Ayeka circles where ideas continue to unfold. We hope our next Rabbi enjoys creating those kinds of experiences—offering teachings that spark curiosity, invite honest wrestling with enduring questions, and help people discover the continuing relevance of Jewish wisdom. Responsibilities include: Lead inspiring and transformative Shabbat, holiday, and High Holiday worship rooted in core Jewish Renewal themes such as Hasidic roots, Kabbalah, deep ecumenism, connection to the earth, divine feminine and Four Worlds. Create worship experiences that thoughtfully integrate prayer, music, meditation, silence, embodied practice, and meaningful participation. Collaborate closely with our Shomrei Ruach worship leadership team, musicians, and lay leaders in shaping the spiritual life of the congregation. Offer sermons and teachings that illuminate Jewish wisdom, invite thoughtful reflection, and connect meaningfully with contemporary life. Teach across all stages of life through Torah study, adult education, retreats, B’nai Mitzvah preparation, and other learning opportunities. Encourage thoughtful engagement with Tikkun Olam and help members connect Jewish spiritual practice, learning, and values with lives of compassion, justice, and service in the broader community. Cultivate emerging teachers, service leaders, and spiritual leaders within the congregation.
Building Community: We believe an authentic Jewish community is built one relationship at a time. Our Rabbi plays a central role in creating a culture where people feel welcomed, known, supported, challenged, and inspired to contribute their unique gifts. Responsibilities include: Build meaningful relationships throughout the congregation. Welcome newcomers and help them become active participants in congregational life. Foster engagement across generations while strengthening connections with younger individuals and families. Officiate at lifecycle events with warmth, wisdom, and compassion. Provide pastoral care during times of celebration, illness, transition, and loss. Partner with volunteers to nurture a culture of caring and mutual support. Help cultivate a community in which members actively participate, lead, and take shared ownership of congregational life.
Cultivating the Next Generation: The future of Nevei Kodesh depends upon helping children and families experience Judaism as joyful, meaningful, intellectually engaging, and spiritually alive. Our religious school is one of our congregation’s highest priorities and one of the primary gateways through which families become deeply connected to Jewish life and to our community. The Rabbi will partner closely with professional staff, teachers, volunteers, parents, and the Board to continue strengthening the school. Responsibilities include: Provide overall vision, spiritual leadership, and educational direction for the religious school. Partner with the Managing Director, educational staff, and lead teachers in supporting curriculum, teacher development, and educational excellence. Help ensure that the school is fully integrated into the broader life of the congregation. Inspire children, parents, grandparents, and teachers to experience Jewish learning as a lifelong journey rather than simply preparation for B’nai Mitzvah. Foster meaningful opportunities for intergenerational learning and family engagement. Partner with the parent liaison to build opportunities for parent engagement during school sessions. Help position the school as an important contributor to the congregation’s long-term vitality and growth. The Rabbi is not responsible for administrative or the day to day operations of the school.
Leading Together: Nevei Kodesh thrives through collaborative leadership. Our Rabbi will partner closely with staff, lay leaders, volunteers, and the Board. Responsibilities include: Partner with the Board in strategic thinking and long-term vision. Work collaboratively with the Managing Director in supporting the congregation’s overall health and effectiveness. Encourage, mentor, and develop lay leadership throughout the congregation. Serve as an ambassador for Nevei Kodesh within the broader Jewish and interfaith communities. Support thoughtful, sustainable growth in membership, participation, and community impact. Assist with fundraising activities as necessary. Our Rabbi will join a culture that values trust, honest communication, shared responsibility, and mutual accountability. Together, clergy, staff, lay leaders, volunteers, and the Board seek to create a community that is spiritually vibrant, organizationally healthy, and financially sustainable.
Who We Hope You Are: While experience and professional accomplishments matter, our community consistently returned to something deeper during our community member interviews: the kind of person we hope our next Rabbi will be. We hope you are someone who: Cultivates authentic, caring relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds. Inspires through thoughtful teaching that engages body, heart, mind, and spirit—and leaves people with ideas that continue unfolding long after services have ended. Is intellectually curious and enjoys exploring enduring questions without rushing to simple answers. Is spiritually grounded and comfortable guiding others through prayer, contemplation, celebration, and times of challenge. Values music, meditation, and embodied spiritual practice as meaningful pathways into Jewish life. Leads collaboratively while providing clear spiritual vision. Is energized by helping communities grow and thrive. Is humble, emotionally intelligent, and eager to continue learning. Finds joy in building community and developing the gifts of others. Is passionate about working with children and adults. Most importantly, we hope you are excited by the opportunity to build a long-term partnership with a Renewal congregation that is committed to continual learning, thoughtful reflection, and becoming ever more fully itself.
