The Community Mobilizer, Long Island, is an opportunity for a creative, entrepreneurial, nimble professional who is excited to bring new ideas to the Long Island community and see them through to execution. The Community Mobilizers work with community members and organizational leaders to address needs in local Jewish communities and to inspire grassroot participation in solving challenges and acting on opportunities. UJA currently has Community Mobilizer professionals on Long Island, in Westchester, Brooklyn, and Queens. Individually, in discreet geographic areas, and collectively across the New York area, this is a rapid response team committed to cultivating the power of community. The Community Mobilizer Long Island will primarily focus on mobilizing Long Island Jewish organizations and community members to identify and address needs and act on opportunities to strengthen the Long Island Jewish community. The secondary portfolio will be assisting teammates with the execution of catchment wide community programs and initiatives.

Long Island: The Community Mobilizer will work closely with the Senior Community Mobilizer, Long Island to develop convenings, grants or programs to support the LI Jewish community. This includes cultivating strong relationships with local stakeholders (including synagogues, schools, agencies, grassroots initiatives and community members), leveraging UJA resources locally, and designing new initiatives responsive to the place and the moment. Major Responsibilities: Long Island: Develop relationships with local stakeholders, including synagogues, schools, JCCs, agencies, grassroots initiatives and community members, Convene roundtables of key sectors and organizations in the community to foster ongoing collaborations and implement community solutions, Respond to local needs on the ground with new programmatic and grant funded initiatives, including developing and implementing localized strategies and programs to support communal needs & Serve as an external UJA representative in Long Island Jewish communities, attending community events and meeting with professionals spearheading programing for the Jewish community, Co-lead Advisory Council, engaging chair and volunteer council members in designing the work. 

General Mobilizations: The Community Mobilizer will assist on programs that mobilize the community across UJA’s catchment area of NYC, Westchester, and Long Island. This could include community rallies, volunteer initiatives including the MLK day of service, community holiday celebrations or commemorations and crisis response initiatives. The Community Mobilizer will work on both program logistics when relevant as well as communication and community outreach to UJA’s partners. Major Responsibilities: General Mobilizations: Project manage implementation of community wide events as needed, Assist in implementation of UJA-Federation’s large-scale days of service (1-3/year, including MLK Day) & Coordinate collection of information from UJA partners across NYC, Westchester and Long Island for relevant events and dissemination of information to community partners. Qualifications: Five+ years of project /program coordination/ implementation experience; volunteer mobilization; or planning/community organizing/community development, or other relevant experiences, Familiarity with the general makeup of the New York Jewish community, and Long Island specifically, Candidates who live on Long Island are strongly preferred, Ability to communicate clearly and with cultural sensitivity with various stakeholders, including internal and external colleagues, community Rabbis, community educators, people from a variety of different Jewish/religious/ethnic backgrounds, people at various life stages, various socioeconomic backgrounds etc., Self-starter, with ability to find and develop opportunities without a clear road map, who is comfortable balancing a start-up type environment and more legacy environment, Strong written and verbal communication skills, Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills & Can work collaboratively or alone. The salary range for this role is $85,000 – 90,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications listed above. Full-time with benefits.
