Kesher Israel Congregation, an unaffiliated progressive Conservative congregation of approximately 240 member families, located about an hour west of Philadelphia, is looking for a Cantor/Cantorial Soloist to help lead our congregation for the 5786/2025 High Holiday services. Requirements: Training and experience as a High Holiday Cantor, Knowledgeable of High Holiday liturgy, Familiar with traditional nusakh and contemporary High Holiday melodies, Familiar with the Mahzor Lev Shalem & Skilled in leading davening with soul, passion, and emotion. Duties: We are looking for someone to partner with our Rabbi to lead services for the High Holidays. This will include: Working with our Rabbi and congregational leaders over the months leading up to the High Holy Days to plan the services, Leading High Holy Day Services: Erev Rosh Hashanah Services, Day One and Day Two of Rosh Hashanah-Shacharit, the Torah Service and Musaf & Yom Kippur- Kol Nidre, Shacharit, the Torah Service and Musaf, Mincha through Neilah & The cantor may also be asked to chant Torah. Compensation: $7000-$9000 based on experience. Travel will be covered by the congregation, Candidates will make their own arrangements for travel, Hotel accommodations- should the candidate need to walk, please note that the closest hotel within walking distance is 1.4 miles & Kosher or vegetarian meals will be provided by the congregation. Kesher Israel is a diverse, vibrant Jewish community. The congregation’s mission is “Building sacred community with the tools of Jewish Tradition”. The West Chester, PA campus is home to the David Ari and Michael Eric Zukin Religious School for K-7th grade which has 85 students enrolled and a full-service preschool with 185 enrolled. The 240 families ensure that the community is large enough to offer a variety of programs and events, but small enough so that we can make intimate connections and lifelong friendships. Ordained by the Academy for Jewish Religion, our pulpit rabbi is inclusive and welcoming by emphasizing creativity, storytelling, music, and text study in their approach to Judaism.
