FVJC, a warm and inclusive Reform congregation in Simsbury, CT, is seeking a rabbinical or cantorial student to support our rabbi and community during the 5786 High Holiday season. This is a dynamic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a vibrant synagogue setting, with a mix of responsibilities. The candidate will co-lead services and work closely with FVJC’s senior rabbi to develop meaningful content, appropriate musical choices, and contribute to a spiritually uplifting holiday experience. Key Responsibilities May Include: Co-leading and/or offering readings, reflections or sermons during Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rosh Hashanah Day 1 or Day 2, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur services, Leading or co-leading children’s services with age-appropriate stories, songs, and prayers, Facilitating or teaching an adult learning session or discussion group, Supporting behind-the-scenes logistics and preparation & Offering a calm presence and meaningful support to congregants before and after services. More important is a spirit of collaboration, creativity, and comfort leading in front of a congregation. Familiarity with Reform liturgy, tunes, and values is awesome though not required. This is a paid opportunity ($4,500-$6,500 – commensurate with experience) and includes both days of Rosh Hashanah as well as Yom Kippur. Housing with a host family is available.
