Cleveland Hillel Foundation is seeking a High Holidays service leader for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur for our community of students, faculty, and local participants at Oberlin College & Conservatory. The service leader will be responsible for the following: Develop all service outlines, lead services, involve students, and provide a warm and welcoming environment for all attendees for Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rosh Hashanah morning (1st day), Kol Nidre, Yom Kippur morning, and a combined Yom Kippur Mincha/Neilah. Partner with Oberlin Hillel staff and student leaders concerning all relevant aspects and logistics of the services, including services outlines, prayer books/machzorim and handouts, Torah scrolls, baal tekiah/shofar blowers, and student participation. The service is Conservative style, but modified for our mixed Reform and Conservative community. We are looking for traditional Hebrew-chanted nusach as well as melodies that encourage participation. Shared responsibility with student leaders for English readings and prayer introductions. Primary chanter for Torah and Haftarah, but parts can be shared with staff and students. No sermon or other teaching is required, but if you are interested, we can discuss opportunities. Base compensation is $5,000 plus travel, lodging, and meals.
