Congregation Beth Shalom is an awesome community, a thriving Conservative synagogue located in Northbrook, Illinois, part of Chicago’s beautiful North Shore. We have become one of the largest Conservative synagogues in the Midwest, with a membership of over 950 households. We are dedicated to promoting family and community through Limud, Tefillah, and Tzedakah. We are seeking a religious leader as a third clergy member (Rabbi and/or Cantor) who is engaging, dynamic, and energetic to strengthen and support our Beth Shalom family. We are looking for an individual with the following: Musical Abilities: We are looking for a clergy member who possesses substantive musical skills. One who inspires ruach and spirituality through singing and/or through a musical instrument. The person should be comfortable with leading religious services, sharing a sermon and/or D’vrai Torah, and celebrating and commemorating life-cycle events on the bima, Pastoral Counseling and Care: Our congregation has members across the life span. It is imperative that our clergy is adept at creating meaningful ways to engage with all populations. We consider all life-cycle events, whether they be joyful or sad occasions, important touchpoints which help to create strong and meaningful bonds between our clergy and congregants & Innovation: We welcome our new clergy member to offer creative initiatives; ones that imagine more opportunities for connections with congregants and their families. We are justifiably known and admired as an innovative and collaborative synagogue in which all are encouraged to give voice to new ideas with the full support of our clergy, lay leaders and staff.
