Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center is a vibrant synagogue that embraces tradition, invites innovation, and inspires participation. We are a diverse congregation of all ages, identities, and family constellations. Our sacred space welcomes all who seek to worship, study, and grow their religious, cultural, and social ties to Judaism. While our synagogue continues its long affiliation with the Conservative movement, our members come from a variety of backgrounds and represent a spectrum of religious beliefs and practices within Judaism. We welcome all who walk through our doors seeking a Jewish home to pray, to learn, to connect, and to celebrate with us. We are a congregation of 450 families with a religious school and a preschool on our campus in the beautiful foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains about 12 miles north of Los Angeles. We are a financially stable institution with a full-time Cantor, an Executive Director, an Education Director, a staff of 11, and an actively engaged lay leadership. We celebrated our 100th anniversary in 2021. PJTC seeks a dynamic rabbi who is an authentic, effective communicator and a collaborative, approachable leader who works well with other clergy, staff, and lay leaders. Our spiritual leader will be warm and welcoming when interacting individually with a broad range of congregants, as well as engaging and inspiring in relating Judaism to our lives today, whether leading on the bimah or teaching in a variety of settings to support a connection to the divine. The ideal candidate will possess multiple skill sets, a deep knowledge of traditional and contemporary Jewish thought and practice, and a compelling vision of Jewish life that increases participation and connection within the PJTC community and the wider community. Areas of Responsibility: Avodah – Spiritual Life and Religious Practice, Limmud – Education and Lifelong Learning, Kehillah – Community and Culture, Tikkun Olam – Healing the World & Hadracha – Leadership and Governance. Qualifications: Formal ordination from a recognized seminary or rabbinic program, At least three years as a lead rabbi with bimah and congregational leadership experience, An ability to create and deliver intellectually stimulating sermons and other teachings in a concise, passionate, meaningful, and relevant way, Strong knowledge base in Jewish religion, history, culture, classic texts, halacha, contemporary spirituality, and both classical and modern Hebrew fluency and comprehension, Ability to encourage and convey an understanding of Torah and other Jewish texts to adults and children, Strong skills in collaborative leadership, oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, facilitation, organization, and time management, Dedication to tikkun olam, Jewish values, and encouraging PJTC and its members to discuss and engage with the larger community around issues of concern & Commitment to the State of Israel as a democratic pluralistic society; masterful at navigating through, and bringing together, congregants with different viewpoints and perspectives.
