Shalom b’Harim Synagogue - Gainesville, GA

Conservative, Reform, Unaffiliated

We are a small, unaffiliated synagogue oriented toward Reform/Conservative worship. We serve the “Jewishly sparse” area of the North Georgia Mountains, including Hall, Habersham, White, Forsyth, Dawson and Lumpkin Counties north of Atlanta. Our congregation, primarily 60 and older, rents our sanctuary & kitchen facilities, about once a month, on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings from Unity Church of Gainesville, a friendly Christian congregation. We usually linger after services for meal and socializing, and hope our rabbi will join us. We have NO dues structure, though of course we solicit contributions from the congregation, many of whom are quite generous. We have operated successfully for approximately 20 years. We have a core membership of approximately 40 actively engaged members and another 30 people who come and go. High Holidays, of course, are more crowded. We are now looking for a Rabbi who can start soon and lead us in Friday evening or Saturday morning services (we have some of each) as well as lead our High Holiday Services and special occasions. We are looking for someone who wants to become part of our Jewish community in the North Georgia Mountains and will engage warmly and compassionately with our members. We’d like someone passionate about Judaism and about the Jewish community, and who will play a role in social and civic Jewish related projects in our community, including with our non-Jewish neighbors. We’d like you to be available for occasional life-cycle events, which will be compensated individually, separately from our regular services. Obviously, the “right” rabbi will have additional means of support; we pay stipends per service, at a generous rate, but not enough to sustain an individual or family year-round. Gainesville, Ga. is 50 miles north of Atlanta and 100 miles south of Greenville, SC, both of which have airports and other transportation options. Available to Conduct Friday & Saturday morning Services, and High Holidays. (approx. 14 services per year). Part-time. Please respond by emailing your resume, background, and a cover letter to: Shalom b’Harim, Rabbi Search Committee: Richard Grosswald, 404-444-0660, [email protected]. http://shalombharim.or.
