WDVA is hiring a part-time Chaplain (Religious Coordinator) to provide chapel services for our residents, staff, and community. Work schedule will require variations to meet program needs (special events, holidays, and coverage). General schedule will be six (6) hours on Sundays and two (2) to seven (7) hour shifts during the week (days are negotiable and vary according to program and facility needs). This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules. Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025. Salary: $25.96 – $34.07 an hour. In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families. As the Chaplain (Religious Coordinator) for the Washington Veterans Home, you will provide spiritual and religious services for Veterans, staff, and the community, as well as offering spiritual end-of-life comfort. You will also participate in scheduled activity groups for our residents, develop a core of volunteers to provide one-on-one spiritual consultation, and participate in annual or special religious events as needed. Duties: Plan weekly nondenominational church services for residents and community; one service in the chapel and one service in the dementia unit, Plan and lead a weekly Bible study for residents, Correspond with relatives, court officials, and friends of residents or patients on religious matters; work closely with professional staff to address patient spiritual needs, Minister to the ill and conduct funeral services for deceased patients, residents, or staff at the request of their families, Arrange to provide sacred music at services as needed. Perform hospital visits for residents as needed, Obtain and distribute religious literature that is appropriate for the faiths represented, Participate in scheduled activity groups as directed by supervisor to build rapport with residents, Recruit for volunteers who are able and willing to provide spiritual comfort to residents as needed, Act as the Chaplain for the institution; prepare and conduct religious services; administer sacraments and other religious rites; conduct special services on religious and military holidays as well as special occasions, as appropriate & And more! *Complete Position Description available upon request* Qualifications: Required: A combination of education and professional experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis. Professional experience must be relevant to the position, A graduate degree from seminary accredited by the Association of Theological School and current certification by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education or National Association of Catholic Chaplains AND Three (3) years of experience as an ordained minister, priest, or other religious leader such as rabbi, imam, Latter Day Saint bishop, or shaman of a nationally recognized faith & Currently ordained and endorsed for chaplaincy by, and in good standing with, a nationally recognized religious body. Preferred/Desired: Experience providing end-of-life comfort & Experience recruiting, training, and directing volunteers. Special Requirements: Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position, Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing, Must become familiar and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable, Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees & In an emergency, employees may be asked to stay for an extended period of time and perform duties appropriate to the situation.
