Woodbury Jewish Center - Woodbury, NY

Conservative, Egalitarian

Woodbury Jewish Center (WJC) Is a 35-year-old Egalitarian Conservative congregation with more than 500 members and 350 students enrolled in our Early Childhood and Religious School programs. Over the last five years, our membership has grown by nearly 35%, expanding in every demographic. We are situated in a hub of Jewish life on the north shore of Long Island.  WJC seeks a dynamic Cantor to partner with our young, energetic rabbi and lay leaders to continue this growth and maintain the individual sense of belonging, purpose, and connection that drive our membership. At WJC we are reimagining our staffing structure.  We would love to have a conversation with any candidate about which portfolios would be included in the job.  Cantorial work is included; however, we would love to see an applicant who can teach our children and possibly oversee our religious school and how our children’s knowledge impacts our congregation. Requirements: Cantorial Investiture/Ordination, Performative vocal skills, Vocal lead for Shabbat, Holiday and High Holiday services, Deep knowledge of both traditional and contemporary Jewish music, Excellent communicator (oral and written) who can effectively interact with clergy, lay leaders, teachers and congregants, Skilled teacher to engage our Bar/Bat Mitzvah students and congregants, Engage our early childhood students and Religious School students in music, Torah reading, Assist the Rabbi in pastoral duties including weekday Minyans, Shiva Minyans, Funerals, Bikur Cholim, Organize and participate in concerts at the synagogue   & Officiate at wedding ceremonies held at WJC when requested. Preferred skills: Pastoral care training (i.e. CPE or equivalent), Choir experience and instrumental skills (we do not use instruments on Shabbat and holidays) & Experience in executive synagogue leadership. Full-time with benefits. Please submit your resume and any available recordings and/or performances to [email protected]. www.woodburyjc.org
