The Huntington Jewish Center ( HJC) is a thriving multigenerational, egalitarian Conservative synagogue with a proud history spanning 118 years. We are located in the heart of Huntington in western Suffolk County, Long Island, NY.  HJC is a warm and inclusive congregation that celebrates tradition while embracing innovation.   We are seeking an energetic, dynamic and imaginative Cantor to serve as a partner to our Rabbi as a spiritual leader as well as connect and develop relationships with our members, preschool and religious school, and the Jewish community at large. The Cantor will combine correct nusach with new melodies creating inclusive and inspiring services for our community. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Lead Shabbat & Holiday Services, Be the Rabbi’s Clergy partner in matters of ritual & partner in all life cycle events, pastoral visits, leading shiva minyanim, Coordinate B’nai Mitzvah program and train future B’nai Mitzvah, Create and lead early childhood and religious school musical events (classes, shabbatot & holiday events), Teach prayers and music in the Religious school, Create/Collaborate at special musical projects- musical shabattot, musicians at services, Purim Spiel, Organize Torah readings and read Torah on Shabbat and holidays, Train lay members/students in torah, haftorah and megillah reading, Support the daily morning minyan, Build relationships within HJC and with other Jewish and non-Jewish organizations in the community & Coordinate musical instruments at services & other events. Although we prefer an ordained Cantor, we are open to meeting music professionals with synagogue experience. Salary commensurate with experience. Full-time. https://www.hjcny.org/.
